Patricia on a mission

'It has been a tough few years facing some personal challenges'

LIVING with HIV for over a decade, Richards Bay’s Patricia Mthiyane (55) is back on the scene and gearing up for some awareness talks on the pandemic ahead of World Aids Day in December.

Having relocated to Mzingazi, Mthiyane took a break from community work while coming to terms with the loss of her mother and completing a series of skin surgery treatments at a hospital in Durban.

Still going strong and in good health, Mthiyane has continued to remain positive and upbeat, educating community members in her area about knowing their status and leading a safe and healthy lifestyle.

‘It has been a tough few years facing some personal challenges.

‘In the past year I have been in and out of hospital undergoing skin surgery for burns I sustained in a gas explosion when I was five years old.

‘I am happy to have finally had this corrective surgery done, which has given me a new lease on life.

‘I am looking forward to making a difference in helping people living with HIV/Aids to realise that this illness can be managed and they can lead healthy, long lives,’ she said.

The community can reach Patricia on 078 3327196.
