Mayor makes Dolosfees ‘deal’

Dolosfees off to super start

‘YOU make sure I am re-elected by giving me your votes, and in turn I will not only guarantee support of next year’s event, I will also perform on stage!’

Tongue-in-cheek, City of uMhlathuze Mayor Cllr Mdu Mhlongo added his wit to the positive vibes at Thursday opening night of the Dolosfees.

On a more serious note, after affirming his ‘contract’ with the appreciative audience, Mhlongo praised festival organiser Elis Boshoff and her team on attracting national attention to the city.

‘We value a multi-cultural society and we are committed to supporting the performing arts,’ he said.

‘The festival is an opportunity to market our beautiful city, through the positive exposure on DSTV.

‘It also attracts many visitors who will leave with good impressions and, importantly, spend their money here on accommodation and other outlays.’

The mayor then sat back, along with colleagues, to enjoy a fine night’s entertainment.

A big fan of Queen and the late Freddie Mercury, he thrilled to the performance of Joseph Clark and guitarist Nathan Smith, who blew the tent away with their covers of Queen’s finest songs.

The good first night crowd also enjoyed the offerings of talented local artists Michelle Robinson, Marius ‘Elvis’ Beukus, Johan de Klerk, Daniel Hoffman and Jaco Nortje.

Together, they got the weekend’s Dolosfees off to a roaring start.
