There are more songs about love than any other topic throughout human history so the subject is unavoidable. How about buying some new romantic tunes or listening to some old school jams to fire up the heartstrings this Valentine’s Day? Music can soothe your soul and can be enjoyed alone or in groups plus it kills time, these are all major wins.

Chocolate

The best thing about Valentine’s Day (or any commercially holiday) is the amount of chocolates that are available in all sorts of shapes, sizes available anywhere you go guilt free. Try the chocolate that comes with love poems or the see how many of your loved ones can share one of those big chocolate hearts. Chocolate releases endorphins, the feel good hormone in your body, so it’s guaranteed to make anyone feel good (unless you over do it).

Movies

Catching up on some of the latest movies (it doesn’t have to be a romantic comedy), is one of the best ways to spend Valentine’s Day whether you want “me time” or want to hang out with your loved ones. Some of the Oscar nominated films include The Big Short, Bridge of Spies, Brooklyn, Mad Max: Fury Road, The Martian, The Revenant, Room and Spotlight. Visit your local DVD store or see them on the big screen, get some popcorn and fizzy drinks and you’re sorted for the day.

Flowers

Flowers aren’t for everyone but it’s undeniable that they can still look pretty, smell good and come in so many different incarnations. Valentine’s Day does not have to be your favourite holiday to make it special for yourself or someone you love. Make someone feel special by getting them a rose or brighten up your home with fresh flowers.

Dessert

Everyday should be celebrated with your favourite dessert (but this is not always the case) so why not spoil yourself or loved ones with a mouth-watering dessert on Valentine’s Day? You can either stick to the strawberry and cream cliché or visit a boutique ice-cream parlour with friends or pastry shop with your significant other. There are plenty of options for some feel good dessert love.
