Enactus UNIZULU wows judges at World Cup

Enactus UNIZULU received a warm welcome after claiming a spot in the 2015 Enactus World Cup top eight.

MEMBERS of the University of Zululand chapter of Enactus received a warm welcome home following the team’s successful performance at the 2015 Enactus World Cup.

Enactus UNIZULU, which represented South Africa at the World Cup in Johannesburg against 35 other countries, impressed even the cynics when they made the top eight.

Enactus is an international non-profit organisation which brings together student, academic and business leaders who improve social conditions through entrepreneurial action.

Through a moving presentation, Enactus UNIZULU showcased some of the projects it has been involved in and how its interventions had helped to turn struggling small businesses into sustainable business ventures.

Some of the projects include assisting a small-scale and struggling aquaculture farmer in the province turn his business around.

The team received a standing ovation after their presentation with many of those attending saying they were left speechless.

‘You are just awesome. I am humbled by this presentation and by the standard. We are really proud of you,’ said Professor Mtose following the presentation.

Dewald van Rensburg, the acting registrar who accompanied the team to the World Cup, said he was impressed that while most of the Enactus teams that had participated in the World Cup had chosen projects outside of their home countries or regions, team UNIZULU had decided to get involved in projects that are in the University’s backyard.

Enactus UNIZULU is aiming for the next world cup which is to be held in Canada next year.
