City ready for SATMA awards

Thousands are expected to descend on the City for the weekend of the SATMA awards

THE CITY of uMhlathuze is all set to host the 10th annual South African Traditional Music Achievement Awards (SATMA) on 3 October.

According to City Mayor Mdu Mhlongo, the SATMA awards are growing fast, attaining international attention.

‘This is a huge show of confidence in our City’s ability to host big events, with thousands expected to descend on our City over the weekend,’ he said.

Mhlongo believes that hosting events of international magnitude is part of the City’s anchor strategy to position the area as a national and global player in terms of investment and becoming a tourism destination of choice.

‘The event celebrates and recognizes traditional music and dance that we are known for as a Zulu nation.

‘It also comes at a time when we celebrate our heritage and it will bring our history before the audiences.’

The City will welcome international delegates to the awards, among them President of the United States of America, Barack Obama’s grandmother and daughter of Malcolm X, Ilyasah Shabazz.
