Lady Gaga brings tears with Sound of Music medley

LADY Gaga’s spectacular tribute to The Sound of Music at Sunday night’s Academy Awards (aired in SA on DSTV) was both surprising and mesmerising.

Taking to the stage in a flowing white gown, the pop princess – who at previous award ceremonies has performed in a dress made of raw meat– sang a medley of songs from the 1959 musical The Sound of Music.

Gaga ran through the title song, My Favourite Things, Edelweiss and Climb Ev’ry Mountain, before embracing Julie Andrews, who starred in the 1965 film adaptation. The film won five Academy Awards including best picture and in today’s dollars remains the third-highest grossing film in US box office history.

Andrews’ appearance on stage then prompted a standing ovation.
