David Jenkins spent 3 weeks on stage in the production, 'Amambazo – The Musical' in Pretoria.

Zululand’s musical prodigy, well known ‘white Zulu’, David Jenkins, also known as Qadasi, has just returned from a three week run at the State Theatre in Pretoria where he played the part of Paul Simon in the production, ‘Amambazo – The Musical’.

The play, directed by internationally acclaimed Edmund Mhlongo, is based on the life story of Professor Joseph Shabalala and the history of Ladysmith Black Mambazo.

The show has particular relevance to the 20-year anniversary of democracy in South Africa and gives a strong message of unity through drama, dance and music.

Jenkins said, “It was an honour to be able to play the role of musical icon, Paul Simon, and perform alongside the legendary Ladysmith Black Mambazo who have just been awarded their fourth Grammy Award.

Prior to the production, Jenkins had recently released his second album, Uhambo Olusha (A New Journey), and has returned to KZN in time to perform at the Heritage Festival in Eshowe on Sunday, 18 May and in celebration of Africa Day at Caversham Mill in the Midlands on Saturday, 24 May.
