PASSION is energy! Feel the power that comes from focusing on what excites you. These guys certainly do.

Clinton Hunsley (22), Owen Dunn (20) and Ricardo Hughes (21) make up the Christian rap crew known as ‘True Identity’ of Open Door Assembly Church in Richards Bay.

These guys possess passion, determination, talent and a sense of humour.

The crew got together three years ago with the sole purpose of spreading the word of God through music and as Owen said ‘do something you love and you’ll never work a day in your life’.

With Ricardo in engineering, Clinton a business student and Owen in matric, these guys have their hands full but music keeps them going.

As ordinary youngsters exposed to the daily trials of life and coming from challenging backgrounds, the guys of True Identity find their refuge in music.

The crew may possess different personality traits but are perfectly in sync when the beat drops.

Talkative, dedicated and creative Ricardo reckons ‘music began to show us who we really are hence the name True Identity’ while quiet, soulful and deep Owen says ‘music keeps us going, it is life as we know it’.

Passionate Clinton who is vibrant and very excitable added that ‘music just allows you to freely express yourself and your emotions’.

‘The journey of life is filled with tribulations and perils that will surely cross your path. Many young people intoxicate themselves to have the bravery and liberty to express themselves and it only leads one down the path of destruction,’ Clinton added.

‘We are like every other young person out there but we find freedom of expression in music. Don’t allow society to dictate to you who you should be and what you should do,’ interjected Ricardo.

This crew has ignited something, as if they were on fire from within and they are steadfast about truth and music. ‘Find your true identity and if it is music that inspires you the way it does us, then let it be and follow your passion’ said Owen.
