Gospel artist pays it forward

Zululand-born Thobile van der Merwe, to hold workshops to educate aspiring artists about the music industry

LOCAL gospel artist Thobile van der Merwe is opening doors of opportunity for budding musicians through her entertainment company, HTR Music Productions.

The Richards Bay musician is planning workshops, road shows and events in Zululand to motivate and educate aspiring artists.

These initiatives form part of her social responsibility efforts.

Hailing from Mzingazi, Van der Merwe opened the company with her husband Hendrick in 2004 and she currently resides in Johannesburg.

‘Our company is on a mission to assist local artists and help develop the youth in pursuing careers in this industry.

‘Often young musicians enter into contracts and agreements in haste and suffer in the long run.

‘We hope to educate artists on how to respond to contracts, register their music and market themselves.

‘We are requesting locals to send us their details via sms or email, so we can keep them updated on event dates,’ she said.

Requests can be sent to Hendrick van der Merwe at 074 4444835 or htrmusic@telkomsa.net.
