‘Top Knotch’ performance by Bay angling trio

Richards Bay lads reel in overall victory

RICHARDS Bay anglers Jason Farland, Kevin Boyder and Herman Liversage bagged R20 000, lures and three fishing rods as prizes after winning the 23rd annual Top 10 fishing competition hosted by the Northerns Game Fish Club in Cape Vidal between 16-20 March.

Fishing off Farland’s vessel ‘Top Knotch’, day one saw the local lads finishing on top of the leader board after landing a sailfish and two nice sized couta.

The second day was a blowout, but on day three the team was back in action, landing one black marlin, a couta and a yellowfin tuna, which extended their lead.

The following day, the crew landed more couta and a black marlin which boosted their overall lead.

The final day was tough owing to bad weather, but the team managed to haul in a few more couta, but none of them met the minimum weight for weigh-in.

Kevin caught a small black marlin, among other fish, with Herman hooking a sailfish and a small black marlin.

‘A huge thank you to the organisers. We thoroughly enjoyed the competition and the great camaraderie,’ said Boyder.

Overall team positions

1 Top Knotch 307.64 points,

2 Ace Out 211.54 points

3 Speculate 155.72 points.
