Locals do well in home Cross Country

eShowe hosts first National and Regional Cross Country event of the year

LOCAL riders excelled in the first round of the South African Cross Country Championships.

Local multiple offroad and enduro rider, Calvin Hume, racing for the Perry Bikes Husquvarna team finished first in the KZN Regional 200 Class and second in the National OR3 Class and overall third place for the day.

eShowe riders took advantage of home turf and saw them all finishing on the podium.

Dylan and Brandon Jones was first in the Regional 85cc and Junior WOW 85cc classes respectively.

Cameron West finished third in the Regional High School Class while Michael Jewaskiewitz was second in the Junior WOW Class.

The Pepson Plastics Husqvarna Racing team started its SA Cross Country racing season with a bang in more ways than one over the weekend, when Kenny Gilbert rode to open class OR1 victory at a tough and demanding season opener in eShowe.

‘The track was very demanding, it had a bit of everything,’ said Gilbert after the OR1 win.

‘I overcame a tough dice all day to beat Ross Branch and I’m happy to have started the season on top of the podium.’
