Draw number seven for NRB

Richards Bay FC share the spoils once again

STILL unable to find the back of the net after once again creating a host of clear-cut chances, Richards Bay FC had to be content with a 0-0 scoreline against Witbank Spurs at the uMhlathuze Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

This means they have now shared the spoils in no fewer than seven of their 11 NFD fixtures this season.

The only other outfit to have more draws is the national lottery.

And while a single point is better than nothing, it’s going to take forever to climb the ladder just one point at a time.

It was a case of ‘same old, same old’ as chances were created almost at will, and while the visitors also had their moments, the Natal Rich Boyz should have breezed to victory as a dozen opportunities were spurned.

New head coach Jean Luis Losciuto was forced to watch from the grandstand as his paperwork has not yet been completed, and while pleased with the way his charges acquitted themselves, he knows they lacked the killer instinct that would have brought three points.

The home side dominated all but the middle 15 minutes of the first stanza, best chances failing for Khayelihle Shozi and Kulegani Madondo, whose fierce drive would have broken the back of the net had it not hit a defender in the back.

NRB were unlucky just before the break when Paseka Sekese was bundled off the ball as he was about to shoot.

There was a further clear shout for a home penalty after the resumption, when Sphelele Mkhulise’s blast was handled on the Spurs goal line with the keeper beaten.

Chances came and went at regular intervals with Njabulo Ngcobo, Thabiso Nkoana, Sekese, Philani Cele and Michael Gumede all failing to make the most of the moment.

Frustration is building among the Richards Bay supporters, with champagne soccer ending up flat when the cork comes off.

However, the pairing of Nkoana and Sekese up front looked sharp and the defence remains as tight as ever, with only nine goals conceded in 11 games… but only eight scored at the other end.

One hopes Losciuto’s presence in the dugout will give the needed spark to ignite the NRB fortunes.
