NRB must show no Ubuntu in Cape Town

Richards Bay FC must be ruthless against Ubuntu CT on Friday

RICHARDS Bay FC will kick off the weekend’s National First Division when they take on Ubuntu Cape Town at the Athlone Station on Friday afternoon.

It’s one of those games when nothing but a three point win will do for the NRB side, whose results to date have not reflected their ability.

But they will have to show more consistency than they have to date – and will especially have to display more attacking urgency in the early stages of the contest.

As much as their come-from-behind performances have shown character and fighting spirit, it does them no favours waiting to make late impact.

With eight of the season’s 30 games played, and a solitary win plus four drawn results to their name, there has been enough time to sort out the best combinations.

Log positions are almost irrelevant at this stage, with only eight points separating NRB from the side on top of the table.

What is evident to date is that there is precious little to choose between the teams competing in this year’s campaign.

Richards Bay held top side Stellenbosch to a 1-1 draw on their last visit to the Cape and it would be logical to think they should cruise past last-placed Ubuntu on Friday.

Coach Sello Ntuli’s boys should do the trick…but only if they can eradicate some of the sloppy first half performances.

Having conceded eight goals, just one goal per match on average, NRB have shown solid enough defence.

Without compromising this, they must find ways to get more balls into the back of opponents’ nets.

And the only way to do this is with attacking selections and formations.

It’s time to be bold and ruthless: no charity for Ubuntu!
