Richards Bay FC face log leaders on Sunday

Tough away trip for the Boyz

RICHARDS Bay FC have the chance to upset the National First Division form book when they confront unbeaten log leaders Stellenbosch FC at the Athlone Stadium on Sunday.

Given that the Natal Rich Boyz are languishing just one off the bottom of the table, the money will be on the home side to coast to victory – but as the old cliché goes, games are played on grass, not on paper.

After only six matches in the 30-match season, NRB’s log position does not reflect their ability and they will be determined to get the results their talent demands, starting this weekend.

They will especially want to give newly appointed coach Sello Ntuli the perfect start as he takes the helm for the first time following the sudden departure of head coach Roger Sikhakhane.

I, for one, am convinced Ntuli will turn around the team’s fortunes.

He has a different, more involved, energetic and vocal coaching style and his presence on the sidelines will inspire his charges.

Anyone who has seen his hands-on approach at training will know his passion for preparation and getting it right on the day.

I am also keen to see what formation he deploys and which starting eleven takes to the field.

To date, the NRB side has played its best football when coming back from behind on the scoreboard, showing incredible fighting spirit and tenacity.

They do have the players to set up and score goals and one hopes they will play with more attacking intent from the start, grab a couple of goals and defend the lead.

It’s going to be a humdinger on Sunday and we’re holding thumbs for Sello Ntuli and his lads to return with the season’s biggest upset – and the three points that will embarrass those already calling them ‘relegation contenders’.
