Zululand adventurer to run across southern Africa for charity

Gaven's #TheLongestTrailRun will see him covering 5 500km across five African countries in 210 days

AFTER his epic 2016 Cape-to-Cairo cycle, St Lucia-based adventurer Gaven Sinclair is once again set to embark on an adventure of a lifetime as he prepares for a trail run covering five southern African countries in 210 days.

While Gaven is an adventurer at heart, his trips are all in the name of charity. His goal is to raise awareness of, and funding for, Missing Children South Africa (MCSA).

Gaven will set off on his unsupported trail run on 1 September from St Lucia, heading towards Mozambique.

At first following Mozambique’s south-east coast, he will then travel north through the country, before heading west into Zimbabwe, stopping in Harare before heading south-west towards Botswana.

From there he will run the breadth of Botswana and Namibia before moving south from Walvis Bay to Cape Town.

Gaven Sinclair last year completed a solo cycle from Cape-to-Cairo, also to in support of Missing Children SA

The run will see Gaven cover 5 528km, with a highest elevation of 1 630m, in about seven months.

With 18 years’ experience in the corporate world and 10 enjoying endurance sports, Gaven has turned to motivational speaking and life coaching in between fund-raising adventuring.

‘I am an expert at motivation, inspiration, team building and overcoming challenges,’ said Gaven.

‘My life coaching style encompasses a number of principles, but strictly focuses on health and wellness, and the integration of a healthy lifestyle with diet and exercise.’

Gaven’s previous fund-raising adventure saw him cycle the length of Africa, from Cape Town to Cairo, covering more than 10 000km over 261 days.

‘On average, I covered up to 100km per day, with up to 11 hours in the saddle, all for a good cause,’ said Gaven.

‘To go where few would like to go will always be an inspiration in my life.’

By helping Gaven raise funds for MCSA, sms ‘MCSA’ to 41006 at a cost of R25.
