FATHER and son duo Vleis and JP van der Westhuizen’s darts proved sharper than their fellow competitors’ when they managed to win the Sorted 701 Doubles Darts competition played at Sorted Sports Bar on Saturday.

They dominated from start to finish in a competition that saw 12 teams participating in a knock-out format, playing the best of three matches.

The results from round one’s games determined which teams would competed for the main prize (winners) and which for the plate prize (losers).

After that if one team lost they were out, with the winners progressing.

Brett van Biljoen and Douglas White enjoyed the competition

A number of 180s was recorded on the day, proving the quality of darts delivered and the competitiveness within the tournament.

The Van der Westhuizen duo met Gerhard Kruger and William Kietzmann in the finals, which proved one-sided when they won 2-0.

Jerry Bezuidenthout and Chuch Pereira met Grant Strick and Thys Grobler in the plate finals, which proved very tight.

But it was Bezuidenhout and Pereira who ended up claiming the win 2-0.

After the doubles tournament, a number of players paid R10 to enter a fun 501 knockout competition with the winner taking all the entrants’ money.

Once again it was the best of three matches played.

Vleis managed to dominate from start to finish and met Richards Bay’s Pragarsen Naidoo in the finals.

Both players threw top darts recording scores of 100, 120 and 140.

But in the end it was Vleis who managed to hit the double to finish and claimed a 2-0 win.

Vleis was on fire the entire day, also ending the competition with the highest close, after closing 120 with three darts to win a 701 game.

‘I would really like to thank everyone, including the Richards Bay guys, for supporting this inaugural tournament.

This is the first of many more to come,’ said tournament organiser Stephan Strydom.
