MMA fighters uncaged

Proudly hosted by local MMA club Garage Boys, the event will bring top fighters from Johannesburg and Durban to Richards Bay

THE Zululand Mixed Martial Arts Fight Championships takes place next Friday evening, 30 June, inside the Motor Show marquee at the Zululand Trade Fair.

Proudly hosted by local MMA club Garage Boys, the event will bring top fighters from Johannesburg and Durban to Richards Bay.

Eleven fights have been scheduled, including two women’s fights.

Clubs that will be represented include Garage Boys, Mile High from Randfontein, Johannesburg’s Super Warriors, as well as MuayThai from Durban.

Garage Boys’ Sonja Kleynhans will face Mile High’s Layda Ucar, while the other women’s fight will see Super Warriors’ Nduh Myandeni and Nqobile Hadebe from MuayThai take on one another.

Ruan Erasmus

Local heavyweight Flippie Viljoen (Garage Boys) will hope to show Ruan Erasmus (Mile High) a thing or two.

Other local favourites Piesang van Huizen, Etienne van Wyk and Brett Lundt will also be in action.

One of the highlights of the evening will be Zululand’s Springbok wrestler Klein-Jan Combrinck squaring off againast Ghawe Ntokweni of MuayThai.

Weigh-ins start at 11am on the Friday, and fights start at 6pm.
