Rain-delayed start to Big Five MTB Series

The Zini River Estate Buffalo MTB Race will now be taking place this Saturday, 20 May

THE heavy rains over the last weekend forced the organisers to postpone the first leg of the 2017 Bell Big 5 MTB Series.

The Zini River Estate Buffalo MTB Race will now be taking place this Saturday, 20 May. There are three options catering for various rider skills.

The first is a 10km untimed fun ride. For the more serious, the 25km and 50km options will test body and skill. All the routes include a loop through the beautiful Zini River Estate. The 25km route has flowing single track sections through plantations as well as indigenous forests.

The route is suitable for riders of all levels and with a limited amount of climbing it is bound to be a popular route. Something more challenging The 50km route includes a very special section of track through the dune forests in Umlalazi Nature Reserve before heading north over the Mlalazi River estuary and into some newly cut single track.

Once again, great single track sections lie in wait, with one or two slightly technical sections for the brave. The nitty-gritty Registration is between 6am and 7am on the day. The 50km race starts at 7.30am; the 25km at 8am and the 10km at 8.30am.

The start is at the Mtunzini Country Club with GPS co-ordinates: S28 56.670 E31 45.655. The coordinator is Richard Everingham who can be contacted on 082 4479970 or email – richard@ett. co.za.
