Fishing conditions improve over Zululand shoreline

The harbour has also been producing some Sea Pike and Sand Gurnards

A WELCOME windy break finally arrive for local anglers over the long weekend, when pumping cold south-wester winds that hindered fishing finally died down, allowing anglers a gap to fish on flat, calm seas.

This proved true for shore anglers in Richards Bay, who landed some nice sized Kingfish which are picking up live baits intended for sharks and flat fish.

The harbour has also been producing some Sea Pike and Sand Gurnards.

Serious deep sea anglers found Couta, Snoek and Garrick hot on the menu up north.

Sodwana Bay has been a productive area with deep sea anglers bagging loads of fish over the past couple of days, with Couta coming under the spotlight.

Great news for St Lucia residents is that the fishing has picked up since last week, with reports of nice sized Couta and Snoek coming out.

The secret to landing Snoek is using bullet spoons, twisties and trolling a fillet with a flasher over it.

Couta have been coming out in rather shallow water, with reports of some getting picked up right on the back line.

Richards Bay has been producing some big Tuna and big Couta, with the occasional Snoek for anglers willing to put in the hard yards.

The majority of the bigger Tuna have been coming out in the deeper water on live bait and poppers.

The big Couta are loving Bonnies and big Mackerel.

Smaller spoons around the back line have been successful for anglers who are targeting Snoek and Shad.

Decent sized Dagga Salmon have been coming out at night-time around the Tugela mouth to Zinkwazi areas on predominantly live baits such as Shad, Karenteen and Mullet.

For guys who love fresh water fishing, Jozini dam is the place to be.

After the water near the dam wall started clearing up, reports of Tiger Fish being caught on artificial baits have been streaming in.

With the water starting to clear up, but still slightly off colour, one should use loud and visible lures for guaranteed success.
