Spies and Loots win the day

Richards Bay Rotary sponsored golf day at the Richards Bay Country Club

ANDRE Spies and Leon Loots shot 10 and eight over par respectively, carding 49 combined points to win the Richards Bay Rotary sponsored golf day at the Richards Bay Country Club on Saturday.

Spies, who plays off an 11 handicap, shot 40 over the first nine and 41 over the back nine, carding one birdie and nine pars during his 18 hole round.

His only birdie came on the par 5 13th, where he put together four sensational shots.

Partner Loots on the other hand, played out of his shoes.

Loots, who plays off a 16 handicap, shot 40 on the first nine and 39 on the back nine.

He managed three birdies and five pars.

Sixty competitors took to the course and followed a 4 Ball Better Ball Stableford format over 18 holes.

Charl Groenewald and Jan Erasmus claimed second spot with 47 points, one point ahead of third placed Frank van Niekerk and Marie Terblanche (46 points).

Surfing ace Fred le Roux (3rd) and Ollie Naidoo (11th) struck the ball sweetly off the tee boxes to win the nearest to pin awards.

Justin Royle (men) and Flo Potgieter (women) walked away with the longest drive awards.
