Thanda continue unbeaten streak

Amabhubesi throw away two goal lead to draw with AmaZulu

THANDA Royal Zulu and AmaZulu shared the points in a ding-dong 2-2 thriller at the uMhlathuze Stadium this (Sunday) afternoon.

After a goalless first half in which Thanda squandered a number of chances and Usuthu goalkeeper Sage Stephens pulled of a couple of superb saves, Thanda returned to the pitch in top gear.

Mhlengi Cele, brought on after the break, was back to his best with two great strikes in as many minutes to make it 2-0 and the hosts looking like extending that lead as they kept pounding away at the AmaZulu goals.

But it wasn’t to be. The visitors’ skipper Tapelo Nyongo planted a free kick up and over the wall with Mbatha presumably unsighted between the sticks (2-1).

With 15 minutes to go, veteran striker Siyabonga Nomvethe fired one past a despairing Mbatha to equal matters.

And while Thanda continued to create chances aplenty, AmaZulu in fact had the ball in the net twice more, but from offside positions.

It’s not what they wanted but Thanda remain unbeaten and still enjoy a 10 point lead at the top of the NFD table.
