Hume looks to impress in new class

Local motocross rider Calvin Hume stepped it up a gear

AFTER overloading his trophy cabinet last year, local motocross rider Calvin Hume stepped it up a gear, changing classes and joining the KTM Durban team for the new season.

The youngster dropped his 150cc two-stroke bike and competed in the E1 Class on a 250cc four-stroke machine at the first round of the 2017 KZN X-Country series held on a farm at Cedarville recently.

Keen to impress his new team, the talented young gun hit the challenging 136km course with determination, finishing fourth overall and second in the 250cc class.

Riders competed on a 34km track which provided a good mix of different types of terrain, with each rider needing to complete four laps within three hours.

‘Competitors started on a moto x track and then headed off on a fast jeep track, before going up a mountain range and back down to the lowlands,’ said dad Brett Hume.

‘With the recent rains in the area, riders had to use their riding skills to get through the many mud crossings. Once past the mud flats, it was a fast sprint to the finish.’

Calvin’s next race will be the WFO National Enduro on Saturday in the Dundee area.
