Sunday is show time for Thanda

Regrouped Thanda are ready to resume their big battle

ALREADY enjoying a comfortable 10 point cushion at the top of the National First Division table, Thanda Royal Zulu have further bolstered their side with five new players bought during the transfer window.

There’s going to be a healthy fight for places in the starting line-up when they host Mbombela United at 3.30pm this Sunday when the league resumes.

The new arrivals, who together bring in a wealth of experience, are:

• Velile Zitha, a solid defender who returns to the Thanda fold from Golden Arrows;

• Xolani Ngcobo, an agile goalkeeper from Baroka;

• Thabiso Nkoana, ex SuperSport United and Ajax, a well-travelled striker – but sometimes plagued by ill discipline;

• Lindokuhle Shange, who comes through the SAFA ranks from feeder club Thanda Lions;

• Philane Cele, former Kaiser Chiefs midfielder, who thrives on hard work.

Intensity

Thanda meanwhile resisted offers from PSL outfits for top NFD goal scorer Mhlengi Cele and former SA Under 20 captain Ayabulela Konqobe, who has dominated the park for Thanda over the first half of the current campaign.

A few friendlies during the mid-season break together with seriously intense training sessions means the Amabhubesi will resume their quest for PSL status fully prepared and in top shape.

With another 15 matches to go, unbeaten Thanda are striving to get at least another five wins under their belt to get to a virtually unassailable position.

Sunday should start the ball rolling; the Amabhubesi have made the uMhlathuze Stadium a fortress, picking up a full house of points at every home match.
