Ruan causes bumpy ride for students

uThungulu pick up away win

SPEED merchant Ruan ‘Bumpy’ Janse van Rensburg lead the winning charge for RH Construction uThungulu against UKZN in a Castle Premier League game played at Hammond on Sunday, knocking 42 off 57 balls and taking a five wicket hall.

uThungulu batted first and set a respectable total of 175 for the students to chase despite some early setbacks.

Ashley Lombard, Simon Savides and Freedom Buthelezi were all dismissed without scoring.

But thanks to a solid 60 off 115 balls from Gary Park and Janse van Rensburg’s contribution, the local side posted the 175 for the loss of 8 wickets.

Park managed two fours and two sixes in his 176-minute innings, with Bumpy smashing four fours and two sixes in his 72-minute innings.

Matthew Pollard was the pick of the students, ending with figures of 3/28 in 10 overs.

The students were confident about their chase, needing just 3.5 runs per over.

But with Janse van Rensburg swinging the ball both ways and causing havoc in every over, the UKZN lads were dismissed for only 63 in 175 balls.

Janse van Rensburg was on fire, ending with figures of 5/16 in 8 (economy of 2).

The other five sticks were picked up by Chad Neuhoff (2/11), Dale van der Merwe (2/19) and Buthelezi (1/15).

The uThungulu lads will be on the road again this weekend when they take on Topham in Chatsworth on Sunday.
