Water safety is crucial

Learning to swim is vitally important for our children, not only as a sport, but also from a safety aspect

ACCORDING to Netcare 911, they responded to 218 call outs nationwide to attend to drownings and near drownings between January and October this year.

With the festive season here and locals and visitors flocking to the beaches along the Zululand coastline, adherence to water safety is a must to prevent drownings.

Zululand has 11 swim schools teaching children aged one to eight about water safety.

All coaches are highly trained and accredited to Swimming South Africa.

Once one’s child falls out of the age range for swim schools, local clubs sign kids and adults up for training to compete in galas and endurance swim events.

Learning to swim is vitally important for our children, not only as a sport, but also from a safety aspect.
