Do not kick the healthy habit

Studies have shown that within the first two to three months of the new year, individuals ‘kick the health habit’

MILLIONS of individuals around the world make new year’s resolutions, which often include exercise, health and fitness, with the hopes of getting that sizzling ‘beach bod’.

But when reality and the ongoing pressures of life kick in, the first thing thrown off the resolution list are those that require physical effort.

Studies have shown that within the first two to three months of the new year, individuals ‘kick the health habit’.

Reasoning behind this is due to ‘having no time and motivation’ to exercise one muscle group a day with cardiovascular activities to reach that desired goal.

But with group orientated exercises, focusing on functional movements at high intensities over a period of an hour seems to be the latest craze.

One gets motivated by the competitiveness within group exercise, whilst working numerous muscles groups to fatigue – all within 60 minutes.

Former provincial rugby star Francois Laatz, saw a gap in the local market and opened Elite Fitness in October last year, with the hopes of benefiting community members.

The 28-year-old currently has 56 members at his establishment on the Solid Ground Church property (R102, turn-off R5).

‘People always start exercising too late.

Starting in the summer time for that beach body does not come overnight, one must have the body in the winter already,’ said Laatz.

Laatz offers high intensity classes for an average of 8-10 people per class from Monday to Friday, guaranteeing a solid workout for individuals at every level.

‘I incorporate my workout programs with the knowledge and experience I got whilst playing provincial rugby.’

Laatz matriculated at Pionier Hoërskool in 2007, before joining the Zululand Rugby Academy in 2008.

He later played Vodacom Cup and Currie Cup rugby for the Border Bulldogs and two friendlies for the Southern Kings against the Cheetahs and Lions, before being forced to retire in 2014 from too many concussions.

Laatz completed a Cross-fit level 1 course last year.

‘The benefits of a healthy lifestyle and exercise have been proven so many times over the years. I aim to help any individuals meet their goals and stay motivated to remain healthy.’

Laatz’s long term goals are to further his studies, host competitions, get members to compete in competitions, grow in membership, get more equipment and hire qualified staff to help with the work load.
