Droughtful Brackenham saved by the rain

Brackenham will head back to the drawing board this week, before taking on Felixton away on Saturday

BRACKENHAM Cricket Club were somewhat saved by the rain after a slow start against Empangeni Cricket Club in Saturday’s 24 Eight-Ball-Over league cricket match played at Addison Park.

After having lost the toss and being forced to bowl, the visitors found it difficult to penetrate Empangeni’s strong batting line up.

Dale van der Merwe put on a stunning display for the hosts with a knock of 92 not out while Stephan Joubert fell one run shy of his half century with a knock of 49 runs before being caught by Deshan Pillay.

Errol Chetty (1/39) and Nishan Ishwarlall (1/46) were Brackenham’s top bowlers on the day; however Empangeni set a difficult score of 206/3 after 24 overs.

As ominous clouds loomed in the distance, Brackenham took to the pitch in the hopes of chasing down a somewhat big target before the heavens opened.

Empangeni’s bowlers were well on form with Joubert (4/5) and Robert Gouws (3/21) leading from the front to put the visitors on the back foot.

Trivend Singh (19) and Kerovan Pillay (12) top scored for Brackenham who, on 72/9, breathed a sigh of relief after the game was called off due to the rain, which forced a draw.

Brackenham will head back to the drawing board this week, before taking on Felixton away (Felixton) on Saturday, with Empangeni Cricket Club hosting Richards Bay Rugby Club 1 at Addison Park.
