Drop catches help Empangeni

The home side, captained by Piet Pieterse, won the toss and elected to field first

MANCOSA Empangeni Rugby Football Club‘s (MERFC) opening batsman Pieter van Rooyen took full advantage after being dropped three times during his innings to remain unbeaten at the crease on 57 during a second division Saturday 24 Eight Ball Over League match against Kings XI at Mick Kelly Park on Saturday.
The home side, captained by Piet Pieterse, won the toss and elected to field first.
Kings XI smashed 156 all out in the 18th over, thanks to Mustansir Ali who reached half a ton (50) before falling victim to a superb delivery.
Karel Swart 4/23 in 3.2 overs and opening bowler Warren Graff 2/18 in 4 proved to be the thorns in the visiting outfit’s side.

MERFC reached the required total in the 20th over to claim a six wicket victory.
Van Rooyen top scored with 57 not out and was well supported by Pieterse (29).
Tariq Mehmood was the pick of the Kings XI bowling attack with figures of 1/16 in 2.
Kings XI will take on eSikhawini 2 at Tisand College today, with MERFC having a bye.
