Comrades entries stream in

The entry numbers currently stands at more than 10 100

MORE than half of the 20 000 entry cap has been reached for the 2017 Comrades Marathon by last Monday.

The Comrades Marathon Association (CMA) has confirmed that entries are being taken up quicker this year.

The 2017 Comrades entry process opened on 1 September and closes on 30 November, or as soon as the cap is reached.

The entry numbers currently stands at more than 10 100.

Of the entries received, 9 306 are from South Africa, 122 from the rest of Africa and 695 from the rest of the world.

Provincially, Gauteng has the most entrants (4 998), followed by KZN (1 634), Western Cape (1 141), Mpumalanga (372), Eastern Cape and Limpopo (both on 261), Free State (253), North West (223) and Northern Cape (62).

CMA general manager Chris Fisher said, ‘We are now into the second month of the 2017 Comrades entry process and plans are progressing incredibly well towards Comrades race day on Sunday, 4 June.

‘With the major focus on our athletes and the CMA’s Runners First Initiative, we are working with all role players to ensure that the 92nd Comrades Marathon is the best yet.’
