District cricketers make it four from four

uThungulu almost paid the price for numerous dropped catches and nine wides as Pinetown almost sneaked home

RH CONSTRUCTION uThungulu repeated last Sunday’s Premier T20 double-header home wins with two more excellent victories over the weekend.

The first was a close call as they beat Pinetown by six runs at Lahee Park, while the second was an emphatic seven wicket annihilation against Lancashire at Woodlands.

uThungulu batted first on Saturday and compiled a reasonable 119/8 in their 20 allotted overs.

Skipper Eugene Zwart led from the front with 38 runs, including three sixes and three fours.

He was well supported by Gary Park with 34 and after a bit of a mid-order collapse, good contributions from Daryl Hattingh (15 not out) and Neill Jordan (12) gave respectability to the total.

uThungulu almost paid the price for numerous dropped catches and nine wides as Pinetown almost sneaked home, their last wicket falling to a Simon Savides catch on the boundary in fading light – one of four he bagged in the outfield.

Tyron Koen (63) benefitted most from uThungulu’s misfielding generosity, but at the end of the day it was a magnificent five-wicket haul from Neill Jordan that secured the win.

His outstanding figures of 4-0-8-5 were well supported by Stephan Joubert 4-0-14-2, ensuring the hosts ended on 113 all out, just six runs short of the target.

Easy pickings
Sunday’s match, played in a howling gale, proved a far easier assignment for uThungulu, who cruised to a seven wicket win.

Lancashire batted first and made a formidable 144/8 in their 20 overs, thanks mainly to Sashen Dorasamy (33 not out), Irshaad Mahomad (25) and Kerwin Munaroo (31).

Neil Jordan with 4/26 again headed the attack with distinction, with Chad Neuhoff’s economical 4-0-13-1 helping to stem the flow of runs.

The chase was on and uThungulu were up to the challenge, nailing the objective in just 13.4 overs.

Stephan Joubert (43 off 40 balls) and fellow opener Eugene Zwart (31 off 25)) piled on the pressure with Neill Jordan, promoted up the order scoring 23 off 15, the victory was already in the making.

Simon Savides (21 off 11) and Gary Park (10), both undefeated, saw them home at a canter.
