uThungulu successful at home

The lads will travel to Durban this weekend for their next assignment.

RH CONSTRUCTION uThungulu started the new season with two dominant victories at Addison Park on Sunday.

The local outfit beat UKZN by 10 wickets and Delta by 22 runs in a double header Premier League T20 fixture.

The morning’s proceedings started off with the game against UKZN.

It seems as though the students were still on strike, as they only managed a dismal 96/8 in their allotted 20 overs.

Gavin Reddy lead the protest with 22 runs, but top bowling by Neil Jordan 1/15 in 4 (3.8 runs per over) restricted the Durban outfit to a mediocre total.

Captain Eugene Zwart lead from the front with 56 off 47 balls, getting assistance at the other end from newcomer Ashley Lombard who smashed 37 off 39 balls.

It took the pair just 15 overs to reach 97/0 and secure a 10 wicket victory for their side.

The home side won the toss and elected to bat first, posting 108/6 after 20 overs.

Ruan Janse van Rensburg top scored with 33, with Zwart contributing 24.

Taheer Motala 2/31 in 4 and Sunil Bissoon 1/14 in 3 were the pick of the Delta bowlers.

The visitors fell short at the crease, being dismissed for 86 in the 18th over, thanks to spinner Stephan Joubert who ended with figures of 3/13 in 4.

Dale van der Merwe also contributed with cherry in hand, ending with 2/6 in 2.2 overs.
