Club fund-raiser well supported

Rain fails to put damper on ERFC fundraiser

DESPITE the much needed rain, a good number of locals braved the weather and came out to support the Mancosa Empangeni Rugby Football Club‘s multi-sport family day held on Saturday at Mick Kelly Park and Addison Park.

The day’s proceedings started with the fun 25km mountain bike race hosted by the Cane Rats Cycling Club.

Riders were taken on a wet and muddy route through sugarcane farms, which tested the capabilities of the riders.

Runners and walkers tied up their laces, put on waterproof gear and participated in the fun 10km run/walk hosted by the uMhlathuze Athletics Club at Addison Park.

After the run, the Empangeni Hockey Club hosted a 7-a-side hockey tournament at Addison Park.

Owing to the rain and a number of teams not entering, the touch rugby tournament and the 6-a-side cricket tournament were cancelled.

But the rain failed to put a damper on the festivities at Mick Kelly Park.

There were numerous car, food and market stands, with Bootcamps uMhlathuze doing a demonstration and SAPS delivering a dog show.

Peter Gough, Hennie Coetzee, Bernie William and Angus Band entertained the crowds with their musical talents.

All funds raised on the day were split between the various sporting club’s involved.
