Thanda to play three on the trot

Triple challenge for Thanda Royal Zulu FC

WITH the team on a roll, Thanda Royal Zulu FC will be disappointed that last Sunday’s home fixture against Witbank Spurs was called off owing to a waterlogged pitch.

After two wins to start the season, a third would have seen them two points above the rest at the top of the National First Division table.

As it is, they will have a game in hand as they travel to Mbombela United this Saturday and return to play the rescheduled Witbank fixture on Wednesday before facing Real Kings at home again in a KZN Derby on Sunday, 2 October.

Despite what will be a demanding three games in eight days, Thanda are supremely fit and confident and will relish the challenge.

Despite the postponement, Thanda are still just one point behind joint log leaders Mthatha Bucks, Amazulu and Pretoria University going into the next round of fixtures, thanks to drawn matches at the top of the table over the weekend.

Their nemeses last season was the number of goals they conceded and the few they put in the back of the net.

It’s early days yet, but the signs are that head coach Rodger Sikhakhane has turned this around, as Thanda have only conceded one while scoring four in their first two outings.

The 2015/2016 campaign saw them trying to play catch-up every weekend; this time they will be hoping to stay on top as they aim for that elusive PSL promotion.

And if they get good support from local fans, they will be all that more motivated.
