Thango and Hlele a chip above the rest

Competitors followed a 4 Ball Better Ball Stableford format over 18 holes

GOLFING duo Phiwe Thango and Sabelo Hlele swung freely at the Free Masons golf day held recently at the Richards Bay Country Club, which resulted in six pars and 47 points.

The pair from the South Coast won the day, beating second placed Rodney MacNicol and Leon Bence (43 points) in their back yard.

Competitors followed a 4 Ball Better Ball Stableford format over 18 holes.

This specific format suited the winning pair, as Thango played off a 28 handicap and his partner off a 22 handicap, meaning that they double stroked on holes 1-10 and 1-4 respectively.

Thango shot 93, parring the 2nd, 3rd, 17th and 18th with Hlele shooting 94 parring the 4th and 10th.

Richards Bay’s Tony Lourens and Jimmy Terblanche paired up and ended third on 42 points.
