First hurdle for Amabhubesi

Thanda start new quest for PSL promotion

THANDA Royal Zulu FC begin their marathon 30-match National First Division season with an away fixture to newcomers Magesi FC on Saturday.

Freshly promoted from the ABC Motsepe League, the Limpopo side will be have to be at their best at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium if they hope to contain an Amabhubesi team that excelled in pre-season competition.

They showed class in beating fellow NFD outfit AmaZulu 4-0 and then drawing with PSL club Maritzburg United during recent KZN Premier’s Cup contests.

Having strengthened their squad up front, Thanda will be hoping to put far more balls into the back of the net this season to overcome disappointing results that did not reflect midfield dominance in the vast majority of matches last season.

They will look to the likes of Mhlengi Cele, Sduduzo Dlamini and Innocent Maela to get them off to a flying start that will ultimately lead to long-awaited PSL promotion.

The following fixture will be a home derby against Royal Eagles at the uMhlathuze Stadium on Sunday, 11 September.
