THANDA Royal Zulu were knocked out in the semi-finals of the Premier’s Cup after going down 3-2 to Maritzburg United in a penalty shoot-out on Sunday at the uMhlathuze Stadium.

The two sides headed into a penalty shoot-out after being deadlocked at 1-1 after full-time.

Tournament winners Royal Eagles booked their spot in the finals after beating Golden Arrows 3-2 in the second semi-final.

The final was hotly contested with both Royal Eagles and Maritzburg United playing expansive, attacking football.

But it was Royal Eagles that claimed the bragging rights for 2016 after claiming a 3-2 win.

Thanda will kick off their 2016/17 National First Division campaign against newcomers Magesi FC (away) on 27 August.
