Karate brothers strut their stuff

More than 3 000 international competitors vied for honours, with 80 martial artists representing South Africa.

ST CATHERINE’S karate brothers Rudhra and Aaryan Poorun made a huge impact at the International Sport Karate Association (ISKA) world championships in Orlando, Florida earlier this month, claiming no fewer than eight medals.

Representing team South Africa, the duo competed in 13 events.

More than 3 000 international competitors vied for honours, with 80 martial artists representing South Africa.

‘It was a great honour to represent our country at such a massive event. The tour was awesome. Nothing is beyond one’s dreams if you work hard at achieving them,’ said Aaryan.

They achieved the following results :
Rudhra – 7 and under intermediate green belt
Gold for points sparring, bronze for continuous sparring, clash sparring and traditional kata, fourth for creative kata and fifth for creative weapon kata and traditional weapon kata.

Aaryan – 11 years intermediate second blue belt
Silver for clash sparring and continuous sparring, bronze for points sparring and creative weapons kata and fifth in traditional kata.
