Bay crowned Dewar Shield champs

The local club dismantled their opponents in all aspects of the game.

RICHARDS Bay flanker Devon Muller scored a hat-trick of tries in his side’s 55-12 victory over Vryheid in the Dewar
Shield finals played at Richards Bay Rugby Club on Saturday.

The local club dismantled their opponents in all aspects of the game.

The team coached by Trevor Montgomery won the Fidelity Security First Division South Section after an unforgettable season, and therefore played North Section winners Vryheid for First Division bragging rights.

This victory means that Richards Bay are the official First Division champions for 2016 and now have to wait
for KZNRU to make a final decision on whether or not there will be a promotion/relegation match.

The fixtures committee will meet on Monday 1 August to discuss the matter and set a date and venue if agreed on.

As it looks Richards Bay will take on Newcastle Highlanders away if there is a promotion/relegation game.

In the earlier game played, Westville 2 beat Vryheid 2 49-10 in the Brian Irvine Cup final.
