Versatile Moor on the way up

Like many monthly winners, 'Junior' does not only excel in the classroom, but also out on the sport fields

FREDERICK Winston Moor is the Supersport Let’s Play winner for June.

The 15-year-old is currently in Grade 10 at Empangeni High School and is a straight A student.

Like many monthly winners, Junior (nickname) does not only excel in the classroom, but also out on the sport fields.

He participates in swimming, hockey and cricket and has achieved the following in the three sporting codes:
• Senior Victor Ludorum at the inter-house school gala (2016);
• KZN Schools swim team (2014-2016);
• Participated in the South African Level 1 Championships (2015/2016), picking up three gold medals (100m freestyle, 50m butterfly, 4x50m relay), one silver (100m butterfly) and one bronze (50m backstroke);
• Completed the Midmar Mile (2013-2016);
• Completed Lake Eland Mile in Pietermaritzburg (2013-2016);
• Completed the Golden Mile (2014);
• Participated in the Leomat 1 000m swim (2012-2016);
• Completed the Durban Double Mile (2014);
• Completed the Capital 1km (2013-2015);
• Represented uThungulu at the SAGA Games (2014);
• Plays first team school hockey and uThungulu cricket (2014).

But these achievements have not come easily.

Junior trains five times a week for 90 minutes all year round and follows a strict diet during swim season.
His motto is ‘oxygen is overrated’.

He aims at qualifying for the Olympic team one day and hopes to compete with his role model Calvyn Dylin Justus.

‘I would really like to be a professional swimmer after school. If that does not work out for me, then I would like to study graphic design at Stellenbosch.’

When not hitting the books or training towards his Olympic goal, Junior can be found playing computer games, watching videos on You Tube, hanging out with friends or listening to music.

With his determination and hunger to succeed, who knows, perhaps one will see Junior alongside South African hero Chad le Clos one day.
