Palframan on track for Olympics

Preparations are going well and after nursing a hamstring injury earlier this year, she is finally starting to clock the times she needs to do well.

ESHOWE’S speed queen Justine Palframan (22) is on track for the upcoming Rio Olympic Games after having produced a solid performance at the 20th Confederation African Athletics Championships.

Palframan finished fourth in the women’s 200m with a time of 23.22, just 0.02 seconds off the Olympic qualifying time and went on to win gold and set a new SA record in the women’s 4x400m relay with Caster Semenya, Wenda Nel and Jeanelle Griesel.

The ladies clocked 3.28.49, just 13 seconds off the world record.

In an exclusive interview with the Zululand Observer, Justine said her preparations are going well and after nursing a hamstring injury earlier this year, she is finally starting to clock the times she needs to do well.

‘I am back and feel confident with my running.’
Justine headed off to Italy on Tuesday, for a two week training camp.

She will then compete in an event leading into the Olympic games as part of her final preparations, but could not yet give details on the competition.

She has already qualified for the 200m, 400m and 4x400m events, but has to wait for SASCOC to announce the SA team on 11 July to officially know what she will be competing in.
