Healthy body, healthy mind

The annual Somkhele fun run saw runners of all ages taking part

THE sixth annual Somkhele fun run organised by the Africa Centre for Population Health drew more than 200 participants from surrounding communities.

Themed ‘A healthy body, a healthy mind’, this year’s fun run was held on the Youth Day long weekend and aimed to promote the importance of leading a healthy lifestyle, and unity within the community.

‘It is important for people to participate, to keep their bodies active as this helps eliminate some of the illnesses we find in our communities. These ailments can be reduced with physical activity,’ said Africa Centre Deputy Director, Dr Kobus Herbst as he welcomed the participants.

Runners of all ages entered the race of either six or 12km which took place in Somkhele, Mtubatuba.
The event was also used to create awareness of HIV and other health-related illnesses.
