Baby Boks start campaign off with a bang

Ghosts of Brighton put to rest

THE first 40 minutes of the Junior Springbok game against Japan had people questioning if the ghosts of Brighton had drifted up from the south of England to haunt the South Africans.

The Junior Boks found themselves going into the half time shed 19-14 down to a Japanese side that tested the favourable team at the World Rugby U20 Championships.

But after some serious discussions in the locker room, the Boks bounced back and scored 52 unanswered points, of which 45 came in the second half.

The Boks cemented a solid 59-19 victory that saw the young guns running in eight tries.

Zain Davids (2), JT Jackson, Jeremy Ward (2), Manie Libbok, Mosolwa Mafuma and Carlü Sadie all crossed the chalk for the green and gold, with Sharks Academy flyhalf Curwin Bosch kicking eight conversions and one penalty.

After a nervous opening game, the camp will go back to the drawing board and fine tune some things before taking on Argentina on Saturday in their second Pool C game.
