Richards Bay keeps unbeaten record

Richards Bay rugby put on good performance at home

RICHARDS Bay Rugby Club‘s first team’s unbeaten run continued at the weekend when they beat Westville Old Boys 22-17 in a First Division clash in Richards Bay.

The team, coached by Trevor Montgomery, beat Pietermaritzburg Collegians 30-17 and Ballito Dolphins 35-14 in their first and second round games played earlier in the season.

The local outfit has been blessed thus far, having the right balance and combinations to be competitive, while also being spared serious injuries.

The first team match saw Wiseman Nxumalo, Jimmy Enslin and Deon van den Berg all dot down for the home team, with flyhalf JP Rossouw kicking two conversions and one penalty.

Rossouw and Van den Berg were awarded the Backline and Forward Men of the Match awards.

In the earlier game, Richards Bay 2 suffered their first defeat of the new season when they went down 24-17 in a cracker of a game.

The second side beat Pietermaritzburg Collegians 15-0 and Ballito Dolphins 32-7 in their first two encounters of the new season.

Their match-up at the weekend saw Chris Joubert, Johannes Brand and Rikus van der Sandt all crossing the chalk for their team, with only one try converted.

Brand and Divan Scheepers walked away with the Forwards and Backline Men of the Match awards.

Richards Bay 1 and 2 will be on the road this weekend, travelling down to Durban to take on UKZN in their next fixture.

Kick-off times for those games are 2pm and 3.30pm.
