Naidoo and Manikum bang on target

PRAGARSEN Naidoo and partner Mashlan Manikum averaged scores of 80, 120 and 140 to win the inaugural Umoya Lounge 701 doubles darts competition on Saturday.

The pair were rewarded with R5 000 for their efforts by Umoya owner Preggie Vandayar.

Thirteen teams from Empangeni, Mtunzini and Richards Bay competed in the knock-out tournament.

Mike Bekker and Herman Steyn managed to beat Willie van Rooyen and Grant Strick 2-1 in the first semi-final.clash.

Naidoo and Manikum beat ex-Springbok darts duo of Ronnie McEwan and Marcel Jansen 2-0 in a game that saw the winning pair producing top darts.

The finals was exciting, with Naidoo closing 141 (trip 20, trip 19 and double 15) to take an early 2-0 lead.

But Steyn and Bekker bounced back, with Bekker closing on 36 (18 and double 9) to make the score 2-1.

But with Naidoo and Manikum throwing 100, 120 and 140, the win was on the cards.

The duo won the fourth game to make it 3-1 and secure the cash prize.
