Crossfit Richards Bay competing against World’s best

Corssfit Richards Bay goes international

MEMBERS of CrossFit Richards Bay are currently competing in the Reebok CrossFit Games Open against hundreds of thousands of competitors worldwide.

These local athletes have joined more than 272 000 athletes from around the globe, ranging in ages 14 to 86, in a five-week workout competition.

The games stand as the ultimate test of fitness.

Athletes compete on equal footing, doing the same set of workouts in gyms around the world each weekend.

The next round of the competition will take place on Saturday, with the final round taking place on Monday, 28 March from 4pm at the Richards Bay box (behind Lakeside Spar at the Boardwalk).

Workout programmes are released on a Thursday and athletes have until the Monday to submit their scores.

Each time a workout is released, athletes will be given two versions, namely Rx’d and Scaled.

With reduced loading or less challenging movements, the Scaled option is designed to be accessible to the vast majority of athletes who train in CrossFit affiliates, whilst Rx’d challenges the world’s elite.

Locals standing out thus far in the competition are Paul Botha and Pieter Cloete, who are both tied at 167 out of 2 020 athletes competing in South Africa.

In the ladies section, Melanie van Rooyen is standing at 349 out of 1 338 athletes nationally.

With a few rounds to go, the competition for local bragging rights is high and locals are pushing their bodies to get maximum results.
