Poonan proves lethal with wood and nut in hand

Richards Bay Christian School claim 72 run victory over St Catherine's

RICHARDS Bay Christian Schools Taner Mcewan smashed the leather to all corners of the park during his innings of 41, which aided his team to a comprehensive 72 run victory over St Catherine’s in the boys U13 A match played on Wednesday afternoon.

Mcewan racked up runs by accumulating a handful of boundaries during a dominant innings at the crease, before being bowled out by a dipping delivery.

St Catherine’s won the toss and elected to field first, with the reasoning of knowing what to chase down in the 15 over game.

The visitors reached 138/2 after Mcewan notched up 41 and Kiron Poonan 22.

Sethu Madlala was the only bowler who managed to work magic on the artificial pitch, ending with figures of 1/14 in 4.

The home team’s chase got off to a nightmare start, when the opening batsman was run out off the first ball, and batsman three (Madlala) was clean bowled on the second ball, leaving the scoreboard reading 0/2 after 2 balls.

But as the game continued, the St Catherine’s lads started to accumulate runs, before being dismissed for 66 in the 15th over.

Mpho Ndaba top scored with 13, out of which he hit three 4s.

Poonan proved lethal with the nut, ending with figures of 4/2 in 4.
