Captain Paige steers the ship

EHS claimed a 5 wicket victory at the Dickson Oval on Friday in a first team girls cricket match

THE Empangeni High School (EHS) girls first team cricket captain Paige du Preez led from the front in her team’s 5 wicket victory over Felixton College at the Dickson Oval on Friday afternoon.

Du Preez was run out on 42, but by then caused enough damage to steer her team to overall victory.

EHS won the toss and elected to bowl.

‘The pitch is very dry and hard, which should not change as the day goes on. Therefore knowing what to chase would be key on this wicket,’ said Du Preez about her call.

Felixton reached 102/4 in their 20 overs, thanks mainly to opening batsman Aphiwe Nene, who top scored with an unbeaten 20.

EHS seam bowler Nikka Senekal was rewarded for placing the ball in good areas, ending with figures of 1/17 in 4, with fellow pace bowler Slindokuhle Zulu ending with figures of 0/14 in 4.

The visitors’ chase got off to a slow start, but accelerated when Du Preez entered the frame.

EHS reached 103/5 in the 16th over.

Nene was the pick of the home team’s bowling attack with figures of 3/9 in 4.
