Thanda quick on the draw

Thanda face a flying Royal Eagles at home on Saturday

THANDA Royal Zulu FC shared the spoils 1-1 with Vasco da Gama at the uMhlathuze Stadium on Saturday, their seventh draw of the season.

Disappointing as it was, their second half performance was exhilarating as they played with pace and accuracy, dominating possession and territory and creating a multitude of spurned scoring opportunities.

A draw was a bitter pill to swallow but the standing ovation at the close from a fair sized crowd, who at last had plenty to cheer about, was perhaps some consolation.

Thanda face Royal Eagles this Saturday, again at home, and will go into the game with a much more positive frame of mind.

They need to pick up where they left off, and build on the momentum.

Head coach Major David Bright is still working out his best combinations and his selections have been bolstered by some new and returning signings.

Pick of the bunch is dynamic Jozini youngster Xolani Mpontshane, who scored on debut on Saturday and could be another Ace Benghu in the making.

Siyabonga Shoyisa (Swallows), Marothi Diale (ex Platinum Stars) and Nkosingiphile Mkhwanazi (back from Arrows) add to the depth and experience of the squad.

Realistically, Thanda’s hopes of still achieving a PSL play-off place this season are slim but a run of four or five wins would change that, so it’s all to play for on Saturday.

Apart from Baroka FC, who look certainties for automatic promotion from the NFD, there is much of a muchness among the rest of the clubs, who are there for the taking.

Kick-off is at 3.30pm.
