De Beer’s unbeaten streak broken

De Beer suffers first professional cage fighting loss in Cape Town.

IT took only 3 minutes and 11 seconds in the first round for local professional cage fighter Martin de Beer to lose his unbeaten record on the professional circuit after tapping out to Francois Groenewald at EFC 45 on Saturday at Grandwest Casino and Entertainment World in Cape Town.

The 25-year-old who trains under his father Tienie at Garage Boys failed to get out of a ring neck choke which cost him the fight.

De Beer came up against a more experienced fighter in Groenewald who has already made eight appearances compared to his three prior to this bout.

The 29-year-old from Johannesburg is a submission specialist who used his specialties to win the fight, making his record 6 wins and 3 losses.

De Beer’s record looks good though, winning three and only suffering one defeat.

But he will have to go back to the drawing board and work twice as hard once he has recovered from this fight, in order to bounce back onto the winning track.
