De Beer looks to retain unbeaten record

Martin de Beer will take on Francois Groenewald at EFC 45 next month.

ZULULAND mixed martial arts fighter Martin de Beer will be looking for his fourth consecutive victory since turning professional when he takes on Francois Groenewald at EFC 45 on Saturday, 7 November at Grandwest Casino and Entertainment World in Cape Town.

De Beer has so far made an impression on the professional circuit, winning all three his bouts in the first round – two coming from submissions and one from a TKO.

The 25-year-old who trains under his father Tienie at Garage Boys, is well conditioned and presents an ambidextrous martial arts style which has been his secret to success thus far.

He certainly proves the old adage that dynamite comes in small packages, as he is only 1.68m tall with a reach of 61cm.

He will be taking on a man who has slightly more experience at this level, having already fought eight times in the cage.

Groenewald, who trains at the Rio Grappling Club in Springs has only five wins to his name, with three loses.

But he is undefeated in his current weight class and just like De Beer is also on a three fight winning streak.

The 29-year-old is a submission specialist and has experience in the later rounds.

Therefore De Beer must end the fight in the first round and keep his opponent off the mat if he wants to win this bout.

All the action will be broadcast on Supersport 1 from 8pm onwards.
